   Our final count of dancing Zombies is 61. We definitely had my dream number of 100 registered over the month, but there was a little issue involving a hurricane that kept some Zombies home. that's okay, Zoms, there's always next year!         

  The main thing is, we beat all previous records for money raised for our Red Cross, and I couldn't be prouder, or more grateful. I needed a lot of help, and not only did I get it, I don't know why I would try to do it without all that wonderful support.

     They're still counting, but I heard $180,000 mxn this morning!

  

       LOOKING GOOD ZOMBIES!

It's too soon to make the call, but at 8:00 am it looks like we may be dancing in the streets tonight. We are prepared in case we have to be inside , but I hope we're not, because it would cancel the parade. At the moment, it looks positive. Final call at 2:00 okay?

For parade vehicles, drive down Colon and back into Hidalgo, which will be closed on the Marcos Castellanos side with a city truck.

THERE'S A HURRICANE OUT THERE!!  I know, I know, and we have plans in place in case it's raining. Remember, we must dance at 5:00! We've also made sure that those of you who have purchased dinner dance tickets are by God going to dine and dance, and that your VIP sponsors will not be be cheated. We hope it will be sunny, though, because the one thing that would have to be cancelled or postponed is our parade to six corners.

       By the way VIP does not include the dinner, they are separate. There was just a little confusion on that.

I'M SO PROUD OF ALL THE ZOMBIES

and I'm looking forward to a fantastic Thrill Day. You've all been dancing with real dedication. And I think this years horde is the FIRST ONE who has ever done any homework! Yes, I can tell you have!  However you're doing it, you're doing it, and that's what counts. I just think it's going to be a Thriller to be proud of.

Club Exotica ( downstairs) will turn into club Zombie on Saturday. It will be open a all day after 1:00, and you can hang out, practice, go out and sell tee shirts and prom tickets, however you want to spend your time. 

You MUST be in the club, in dress and makeup 4:00. Here are the Thrill the World rules, which make us eligible to be part of the dance record, and also the TTW family when they start doing pictures for their web site and things like that. Here's the stuff we have to do:

The Thrill Day Ten

1. You MUST sign in. If you are not on the sign in sheet, you are not in the dance.

2. You MUST wear a name tag in the usual place, just this once.

3. We will do a final run through at 4:30

4. Right after that, we will do the group photo. This is required. There are some other video requirements, but all we have to do is get in a huddle and let them take our picture, okay?

5. Our soundtrack starts with a Zombie warning. The Zombie warning plays again, about 15 minutes later, just before the music starts. Don't get out there too early...minutes seem like centuries when you're waiting out there to hear that creaking door. I'm not kidding.

6. Hold your final pose until Vincent Price quits laughing, then turn around and follow Val's lead into the Electric Slide. Once it gets going, I hope some of the crowd will join us. I plan to go down and dance with them to help with that, and you can too....as long as you match what's happening on the stage!

7. Jump into your cars...it's parade time! If you stop at a small Dulceria you can buy huge bags of candy for pesos....this is not the time to throw our your full size snickers bars!

8. At Six Corners we'll dance again, for fun, love and to give a little thanks for the awesome place we live, Then it's back to the cars, and back to the Plaza.

9. Manix will have transformed the plaza while we're away, and set up two cash bars along with the dinner buffet.

10. We'll Party like it's 2015!!!

The tee shirts turned out to be a real success, and they're selling well. That's a profit maker for the Cruz Rojas, so remind you're friends that they can order them from you and pick them up Wednesday, Thursday or Saturday.

The Zombie Prom is selling well, too, and we're going to have a ton of well deserved fun on Saturday night after dancing our Zombie patooties off. The more of your friends you have there to celebrate with you, the more fun you'll have, so let them order tickets too!

Make Up Appointments are OPEN

Starting Wednesday, Zombies can start to make their appointments for their makeup. Simple zombie makeup will be $50 ps and specialty makeup – Catrinas, Zombie - wounds, burns will be $150 ps. Children performing in the dance will be free. All proceeds will be donated to Cruz Roja.

Zombie Alum will testify that this is a great investment, and it makes it super easy if you don't want want to bother with it yourself. We're so lucky to have pro make up artists who volunteer their time for us! The appointments do fill up fast, so get in there and get your spot.

Happy Hour Practice Going Great!

I'm hearing great things on the Zombie grapevine about Wednesday's Happy Hour Dance Practice with Dance Director Val. Many of you have said that you really appreciate the way she breaks the sections down. If you weren't able to attend, you'll see what the buzz is all about tomorrow, at Club Exotica, from 1:00 to 3:00 for the regular dance practice.

Your "homework" this week is the section called Head n Shoulders. Have a look at it once or twice     ( or three times) and you'll be ready to go.

   

In all choreographed routines, one of the most overlooked parts is the transitions, the parts that "attach" one section to the next. Pay a little bit of attention to those as you watch the video lessons. You can gain confidence in the transitions by watching the whole dance.

Most important of all though, is to have a great time.

Remember, The Zombie Horde is a perfectionist free Zone

Welcome Back Val!

Zombie Duchess Val is BACK!!
   Zombies will cheer when the Duchess takes over the Horde ( and the Queen, ahem, graciously backs away). You've met our Executive Committee of Zombie Dance Leader Fether, Zombie Dance Captain Cortlandt, and Zombie Princess Lesley. Val Jones, Veteran Zombie since 2010 is back to take the helm.
    At Wednesdays's Happy Hour, Zombies danced all the way through the routine--twice! We learned two new parts. They are : Section 6:

If you haven't gotten to a rehearsal, or won't even be in the country until October 23, or have some other reason you haven't been able to start yet, fear not. You can join any time. If you've started coming to sessions and you don't feel like you're learning fast enough, again, fear not. The dance will be reviewed often, and then again, and then some more. You literally can sign in at the last minute, and we will welcome you.

 Rehearsals sure are turning out to be fun though, especially since Emilio, has provided us with a bartender on Wednesdays.

Well, Zombies, this is a treat! In the fab photo above, behind Michael and to his left (our right) is our very own Zombie Dance Captain Cortlandt! I bet we're the only horde in the world who has one of the original Zombies from the video!
I have attached the Zombie Step List. Remember there are eight sections, each of which has it's own set of videos. You can find the videos on the tab that says, uh, video lessons. During the dance, all of the sections are repeated at least once--we do the one called Shuffle Ha Slide FOUR times!-- so this list is the order in which the sections are done. It will all make sense on Saturday at 1:00, Club Exotica on the Plaza, when we will meet for our first official Learn the Dance Clinic. Encourage your friends to come and join...Zombie Princess Lesley has committed to 50 teens!

Welcome Back, Zombies!

We had a GREAT turnout for today's registration. We have 50 zombies signed up, and we haven't even had the first dance practice yet! Registration will stay open throughout Zombie season. You can join anytime and this year we want to have 150 Zombies on the Plaza!
  The first "Learn the Dance" clinic will be Saturday, September 20,  at Club Exotica on Ajijic Plaza. Following that, we'll have practice every Saturday and Happy Hour practices on Wednesday from 5:00 to 7:00, same place. Let's show Emilio our appreciation by ordering cocktails...it makes the dancing go better anyway!

Happy Hour Tonight at Club Exotica!

Did you see the ad in Last Fridays Guadalajara Reporter? The first gathering of Ajijic Zombies, new and old, is scheduled for Saturday, September 13th from 1:00 to 3:00, at Lake Chapala Ballroom. But! Alumni Zombies and their guests are invited to a pregame Happy Hour on Thursday evening. I've got a big announcement to make, and we can use your experience to make sure this year's Thrill the World is the best ever.

   

  The kids are back in school, Summer is winding down, the folks up north are getting ready for Labor Day barbeques...I guess that means it's Thrill the World time!
See this weeks Guadalajara Reporter for a very nice article on the brainchild of John Ward, Mockumentary "Thriller in Ajijic." Although it included all of us, I think when you get a chance to view it that you'll agree we were more the inspiration than the actual subject! Thank God none of us have to deal with a Board of Directors such as the one cooked by John for his very funny full length film. Here's the link to the article  .
   The publicity was wonderful, and I've gotten lots of shout outs from Freshman Zombies wanting to know when were going to start. The first ad will appear in the September 5th edition of The Reporter. The first practice, or at least the first gathering of the horde, will be on September 13 at Lake Chapala Ballroom, corner of Marcus Castellanos and the Carreterra. It's upstairs across from Bruno's and we'll meet from 1:00 to 3:00, and then you can go to the globos.
  So excited to see everyone again. Bring your friends, let's make it an even bigger event. The more the merrier!

Bulletin: Please travel light. We are trying to arrange for a secure spot for our belongings, but the hotel has booked every room. If you have a convertible and are willing to give up trunk space for purses, that would be awesome.

Don't have a heart attack at this change....I really want to use the Payaso Rodeo (Spanish version of Achy Breaky Heart) after we Thrill the World. It's in Spanish, and a popular dance in Mexico, so I think it's the line dance that best serves our purpose as a bi-cultural celebration. After that we will have time for photos and mingling, and when you hear the Conga, that will be the signal to move over to the parade vehicles...
The steps are:
3 to the right (kick)
3 to the left (kick)
3 to the back (kick)
3 forward, and turn one quarter as you kick.

Zombie Libby thought of throwing candy during the parade, so if you have some, bring some! Zombie Administrator James and I noticed yesterday that they have individually wrapped hard candies at the dollar store across the plaza.

Remember to sign in and get a name tag, and to be ready for the group photo at 3:30.

Have fun, be nice to each other, and be nice to me. I'm sure I've forgotten or messed up a million things and the day hasn't started yet. If you see things that could be improved for next year, by all means make a note, and we'll share ideas at our "Post Mortem" For today, it's going to be a party and a half however it goes, so Rock ON Zombies!

Ready, Set, ROCK ON!

It's so hard to believe that Thrill Day is here! Well, minus 1 day and 8 hours, according to the trusty countdown clock. Everybody has done such a great job of preparing, and I feel confident that all you awesome zombies can relax and concentrate on having an amazing time on Saturday.
  Here's how the day will work (we hope ):

1.The first make up appointments start at 1:00, so that's the true beginning of Thrill Day. For most participants, though, I'm going to suggest not arriving earlier than 2:00, and 3:00 is fine. The staging area is in the CENTRO CULTURAL.

2. As soon as you get there, SIGN IN and GET A NAME TAG, both requirements for the world record. If you want to go out on the plaza and mingle, grab a red cross donation thingie and go ahead. We may have some stickers or goodies to hand out in exchange for donations or photo ops.
Enjoy your celebrity!

3. There will be a group photo, also a world record requirement, in the centro at 3:30. I think that will make a really fun souvenir. Prints will be available next week for $50 pesos, all proceeds to the Cruz Roja.

4. Our sound guy will have a playlist that is timed to play Thriller at exactly 4:00. The first song is
   Somebody's Watching Me by Rockwell. Then you will hear the Emergency Broadcast followed by Superstition, I was a Teenage Zombie, and I Want to do Bad Things to You.

The Emergency Broadcast will play a second time. That's the signal for the Official Thrill the World. The songs are subject to change as I try to get the timing down to the nano second, but the Emergency broadcast will not. It will play, be followed by several songs, and play again, which is your cue.

5. At the conclusion of Thriller, remember to hold your pose until the song completely fades out, and then feel free to give yourselves a huge cheer! The next song will be Walk and Wine, by Byron Lee. I'll start a Conga line and we'll dance across the plaza to the parade vehicles, which will be parked on Hidalgo. They should be in place by 3:30, and then the street will be closed.

6. We'll parade over to six corners and dance again...it's not required! But it is a nice inter community gesture, and I'm really pleased we're being asked to do it. After that, we'll parade back and party like Zombie rock stars for the rest of the night!

7. Stay tuned for a invitation to a "debriefing" on  Saturday November 8, which will be a chance for us all to get together and share our experience and get the last necessary filming of rehearsal scenes shot for the movie, planned for release in December!

   According to a certain husband who shall remain unnamed (Bruno), Your Zombie Queen is bouncing off the walls with excitement. We're in the countdown to Thrill Day now, with less than two weeks to go. Here's a link to the flyer that can be found around town. As your Zombie Queen, I insist that it's going to be a lot of fun.

  Congratulations to all of you for the great work you're doing getting pledges. Many of you are using the GoFundMe page that is set up for the Ajijic Zombies, so I see the twenty dollar donations, the five dollar donations, the large ones and the small ones. Keep up the good work, and feel free to use that site if you want to appeal to friends and family up North. You'll get an email right away acknowledging any donations made in your name. If you're using a pledge sheet--tried and true!-- you can start bringing your donations to any rehearsal. Thanks for yours, Zombie Shannon.

    I've tried a couple of different approaches to the V.I.P. passes. It seems easiest to provide everyone who has pledged $500 pesos or more with access to the VIP viewing area. Before I make that announcement, please send me the names of sponsors you have so far that qualify, so I can make sure that it will work. Dinner tickets will still be available separately for $150 pesos. Remember, the V.I.P. access is a way to reward them, but the true motivation has to be their desire to donate. The dance is only six minutes long, although I know sometimes if feels like thirty.
  ( I've already planned for those of you who have bought dinner packages, so don't panic.)

    Speaking of the old doh-re-mi, It looks like there's a good chance that the Cruz Roja is going to sell t-shirts this year. It might be helpful if I get a show of hands from Zombies who would be interested in pre-ordering. I think they're going to pretty cool. We're looking at black shirts that have the zombie handprint and white lettering that says

Party Together, Take Care of Each Other

Did you know there’s a countdown clock on the webpage? Look over to your right, and you'll see it, ticking away. Don’t freak out, everybody is doing a FANTASTIC job and there’s still more than enough time to get your Zom on.

 We’ve added a second weekly practice beginning THIS WEDNESDAY at 5:00 pm, but not at Hole in One as previously announced. We will be practicing in the large Club Exotica located behind the Jardin Restaurant on the Plaza. Walk right through the restaurant through the double doors in the back.  If you haven’t been there before, you’re in for a surprise. Emilio will have a bartender on duty at the Sports Bar upstairs, so you can relax with a drink after rehearsal. As always, practices are optional, but the more confident you feel, the more you can relax and enjoy yourself on the day of the event. And there’s going to be a lot to enjoy!

The Delegado stopped by our practice on Saturday and shared his plans for Ajijic’s first annual Zombie parade and barbeque to celebrate Thrill the World. While all the funds we collect go to the Red Cross, his barbeque will benefit the DIF and ….well, I’m not sure about this part, but I got the impression that he’s raising money for fabric for Ajijic old ladies to make Ballet Folklorico costumes.

 I’ll have tickets for the party with me at the Wednesday practice. They are $150 pesos and entitle the bearer to a scrumptious buffet hosted by Manix.

 Diane Pearl is bringing ONE HUNDRED pumpkins to the Plaza at 11:00 on Thrill morning and sponsoring a pumpkin carving contest until 4:00. The proceeds from her efforts will go toward making sure that every local child can celebrate Christmas with a toy or art supplies. The winners of the contest will be announced after the parade, and the carved jack o lanterns will be lit up and used as decorations at the party that evening. It sounds awesome, doesn’t it? It’s a wonderful feeling to be a part of something that is so much fun, and yet does so much good for so many different parts of the community.

 A giant thank you to our VIP Zombie go-go dancers Fether and Val. I know that everyone appreciates having them up front doing the moves. While I’m doing shout-outs, let me congratulate first time Zombie Leslie on her fantastic Zombie recruiting effort. She encouraged a great looking group of her friends to show up, and they all caught on to the dance in no time flat. Welcome aboard, new Zoms, we’re super glad to have you!

Dee Grant and her team of make-up artists were also on hand to sell tickets for Zombie makeup appointments. A regular scary Zombie is $50 pesos, and one of the intricate and really cool Catrina Zombies is $150 pesos. The zombies really stepped up, and we’ve already raised nearly $2000 pesos from the Zombie Glamour Department.  That money is all being donated by the makeup artists to the Red Cross. If you would like an appointment, sign up with Dee or Hansje or one of the other glamour ghouls soon.­­

A Message From the Zombie Makeup Room

Starting at Saturday’s rehearsal we will be selling tickets in advance of the performance for makeup to be applied by our pros. There will be two levels of makeup, just a regular Zombie will be a donation of $50 MXN and the specialty makeup – Catrinas, crows etc will be a donation of $150 MXN. On the day of the performance appointments will be available from 1:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. There will be no charge for children. If you could possibly bring exact amount, it would be greatly appreciated. Remember all proceeds go to Cruz Roja.

What is Thrill the World?

Thrill The World is friends, families and other local residents who each year join together with thousands of other people around the globe to break the World Record for the Largest Simultaneous Dance to Michael Jackson’s “Thriller”! More importantly, TTW is more than just dancing to a 6 minute song–

The broader goal is unity among all the peoples of the world, humanitarianism and environmental stewardship.

The event was founded in 2006 in Toronto, and has now spread to six continents! Every October thousands of people/zombies around the world come together to honor the genius of Michael Jackson and raise funds for charity–oh! and to have fun, too!

How do we do it?

Every October, Zombies across the world synchronize to dance to “Thriller” at exactly the same time. Preparation for the dance is part of the fun but the feeling of being connected to people thinking and doing the same thing at the same time, celebrating a true inspirational genius of Michael Jackson, is what keeps people coming back year after year. Also, knowing what bad dancers Zombies are, it helps people indulge, renew or even discover the joy of dance, without having any fear (what do I look like? Am I any good? ) Zombies don’t do fear!!!

We Did It!

 It is with complete astonishment that I can report that we danced through the whole routine at Saturday's workshop. From here, it will get easier and easier. And the more people that know it, the easier it is for new people to learn it. I've been getting emails asking when it's too late to join Thrill the World. Answer? 4:30 on October 26, because by then we'll be partying! There’s more than enough time for new Zombies to join us.

  As you know, we learn the routine in 8 sections, and we review a section at a time. Any Zombie can join any time, and will eventually learn all 8 parts, each of which is about 32 beats of music. Individual video lessons for all eight can be found by clicking on the tab above that says Video Lessons.

You can also find audio tracks for practicing on the webpage, under Cyber Café. Some people have had difficulty with this download, so here’s a LINK to the full dance done slowly. You can listen to the track and practice along with it. Please go through the lessons first if you haven’t been able to make a practice yet. And for the love of Mike the Undead, say the words of the script ! Remember,

"It’s not your feet that trip you up, it’s your brain! Keep your brain working and your body will keep moving. It may seem strange or even difficult to talk while dancing, especially for those of you who have never done dance before, but we promise you:

On Saturday, I talked about online donation site GoFundme. If you are looking for a way to make it easy for friends up North to support you, check it out. It will walk you through the steps to making your own personal donation website. The Cruz Roja Chapala has looked into it and given us the go ahead.

There are two ways to do this. Zombie Margy has sent out the link to the page that I set up for the Ajijic Zombies (and, by the way, got a very generous donation instantly!)You are welcome to use to use it, too. If your sponsor includes your name in the comments when they donate, (i.e.” for Zombie Cyndi “, ) it will show up immediately, right on the web page. The link at the top right of this page where it says "Click here to support The Ajijic Zombies" leads to the donation page that I am managing.

You can also set up your own page. I took about 5 minutes before rehearsal on Saturday to go through it with Zombies Val and Allyson. If you’d like to know more about it or you want help setting up your page, shoot me an email, it's very user friendly.

Boy,was I happy to see Veteran Zombies Chick and Don this week. They got to the Centro just in time to help me with some heavy lifting, along with Zombie Isaac, who was very helpful. I'm also happy to welcome back Kathy B, an original Zombie, along with newly undead Esther, Lindy, Ben, and Jim, Clare, Hans,Gail and Kelsie!

   We had a fun class that included a little line dancing to warm up and cool down, as well as to introduce a couple of tricky sections. We stormed through Section 4, Hip 'n Roar, and had plenty of energy left for sections 5 and 6, which are Wuz Up and Oh Snap/ Rock on, respectively.

    There are only eight sections altogether, so we have two left to go, and then you'll know the whole routine! Once we've gone through all eight, we'll start back at the beginning and continue that way, teaching the sections in a loop so that fresh Zombie recruits can join at anytime. You Zoms who started at the beginning will be able to do it in your sleep by Thrill Time.

I've added a countdown timer at the top right just so you can scare yourself to death. More important, just under the translation button, you will find links to the printable documents that everyone should have in their Zombie tool kit. They are;
